Before Installing or Upgrading

If the Release 12.1.1 installation or upgrade isperformed with the Rapid Install wizard (either a new R12installation or upgrade from 11i to R12), ensure that you have thelatest Rapid Install patch as described in Oracle ApplicationsRelease Notes, Release 12.1.1 (My Oracle Support Document798258.1) before you begin your installation or upgrade. Completeall operating system, software, and other requirements beforeinstalling or upgrading Oracle E-Business Suite.

Download and Apply latest Rapid Install patch(Solaris 11 only)

If installing Oracle E-Business Suite on Solaris 11 for thefirst time, you must apply the startCD patch 12.1.1.13 or later(patch 11072566) prior to running Rapid Install. This patchincludes the Solaris 11 oraparam.ini changes in the 10.1.3 OracleHome required for the installation on Solaris 11 to succeed.

Upgrade Oracle Database and Oracle ApplicationServer (Solaris 11 only)

Customers who are cloning to or are performing an in-place OSupgrade to Solaris 11 must first upgrade the Oracle Database to11gR2 (11.2.0.3 or higher) and the Oracle Application Server 10gR3to 10.1.3.5 using the respective documents:

  • Interoperability Notes Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 withOracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0) (My Oracle Support Note1058763.1)
  • Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in OracleE-Business Suite Release 12 (My Oracle Support Note454811.1)

Customers who are installing the E-Business Suite on Solaris 11using Rapid Install must upgrade these technology components afterinstallation.

Update oraparam.ini file (Solaris 11 only)

If you are upgrading the operating system to Solaris 11(in-place upgrade) or if you are cloning an existing Release 12environment to a Solaris 11 system, download and apply the relevantpatch applicable to the Application Server Oracle Home (10.1.3.x)prior to the cloning or in-place OS upgrade:

AS 10g VersionEBS oraparam.ini patchApp Server 10.1.3 (Java middle tier)10.1.3.512335816

OPMN port conflict

Attention: By default, the OPMN service of theApplication Server technology stack listens on port 6000 whenstarted up during Rapid Install. This can conflict with the X11port used for the graphics console on Unix servers and preventRapid Install from completing.

To address this issue, perform the following steps beforeinstalling or upgrading:

  • Check if the port 6000 is being used ("netstat -a | grep6000")
  • If so, then you should disable the graphics console loginprocess on the Solaris server. This can be accomplished by loggingin as the UNIX root user and issuing the following commands:
    • Shutdown the dtlogin process with the command"/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -kill"
    • Confirm that nothing is listening at port 6000 ("netstat -a |grep 6000")
    • Disable the local X console for dtlogin with command"/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -d"
    • Restart dtlogin with command "/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e"

Installing or Upgrading

Perform the installation or upgrade by following thedocumentation (Oracle E-Business SuiteInstallation Guide: Using Rapid Install, Oracle E-BusinessSuite Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.1.1 or OracleE-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Maintenance Packinstructions) relevant to the specific installation orupgrade scenario described above.

After Installing or Upgrading

Perform the following steps after installing orupgrading to Release 12.1.1 and before allowing users to access thesystem.

Upgrade Oracle Database and OracleApplication Server (Solaris 11 only)

Customers who installed E-Business Suite 12.1.1 on Solaris 11using Rapid Install must upgrade the Oracle Database to 11gR2(11.2.0.3 or higher). Validate System Configuration post-installchecks which failed for the Oracle Application Server, such as theHTTP server not starting up, should be ignored. Instead, customersmust upgrade the Oracle Application Server 10gR3 to 10.1.3.5.Please use the following documents for the Oracle Database andApplication Server upgrades:

  • Interoperability Notes Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 withOracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0) (My Oracle Support Note1058763.1)
  • Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in OracleE-Business Suite Release 12 (My Oracle Support Note 454811.1)
    • Ensure that all one-off patches are applied as per My OracleSupport Note 454811.1.
    • Apply patch 12722501 in Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5Oracle Home using OPatch.
    • Run AutoConfig (adautocfg.sh) on the application tier.

Customers who cloned or performed an in-place OS upgrade mustensure that their original E-Business Suite instance had beenupgraded to Oracle Database 11gR2 and Oracle Application Server10.1.3.5 prior to performing the clone or in-place OS upgrade.

LD_LIBRARY_PATH Environment Variable

Dynamic libraries are used as part of the relinkingand execution processes. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variableis used by Oracle E-Business Suite to locate the required dynamiclibraries at runtime - this variable is set by the Rapid Installwizard during the installation of EBS as well as by the Rapid Clonescript (adcfgclone) when configuring the target system.

If you need to change these values, use the EditParameters function of the OAM AutoConfig tool (by logging in as'System Administrator' responsibility, clicking on 'SystemAdministrator', selecting 'AutoConfig' under 'Oracle ApplicationsManager', and clicking on the 'Environments' tab):

On each application tier servernode:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in three places:

  • $APPL_TOP/admin/adovars.env
  • $ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.2/[CONTEXT_NAME].env, in the10.1.2 Oracle home directory
  • $ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.3/[CONTEXT_NAME].env, in the10.1.3 Oracle home directory

In the AutoConfig interface, this corresponds to:

LocationParameteradovarsLD_LIBRARY_PATHtools_home (10.1.2)LD_LIBRARY_PATHweb_home (10.1.3)LD_LIBRARY_PATH

On the database server node:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in$ORACLE_HOME/[CONTEXT_NAME].env which corresponds in theAutoConfig interface to:

LocationParameterdb_homeLD_LIBRARY_PATH

After making these changes, run AutoConfig(adautocfg.sh) to implement the changes on the application anddatabase tiers.

Additional Information: See AutoConfig inOracle E-Business Suite Maintenance Utilities for moreinformation on AutoConfig.

Net Service Listeners in Multi-userInstallations

Net Service Listeners use the /var/tmp/.oracledirectory to store temporary files. To give all users in amulti-user installation write privileges, update /var/tmp/.oraclewith 777 permissions:

$ chmod 777 /var/tmp/.oracle

Known Issues

Database Installation failure on T-series Systemswith UltraSPARC T1/T2/T2 Plus/T3/T4 processors

There is a known issue with the Oracle Database(which is bundled by the EBS R12 distribution) on Sun CMT (ChipMultithreading ) systems with UltraSPARC T1/T2/T2 Plus/T3/T4processors, which are multi-socket, multi-core processors that canrun multiple threads in parallel. The Database installer treatseach thread as a virtual CPU and allocates memory that usuallyexceeds what these systems can support when the number of virtualCPUs typically exceed 64.

Users may see installation errors such as:

ORA-00821: Specified value of sga_target 1024M istoo small, needs to be at least 1452M

This issue is fixed in Oracle Database 11g Release 2(11.2.0.3 or higher). For older database versions, two possibleworkarounds are recommended:

1. Users can turn off some of the hardware threads seen by thesystem using the 'psradm (1M)' command before the installation andthen turn them back on as a post EBS install step. Please refer tothe man page of 'psradm(1M)' for more information.

The following examples show the commands to turn off and on eightvirtual CPUs:

# psradm -f 0-7# psradm -n 0-7

2. If using a virtualization technology such as Oracle VM forSPARC (previously known as LDoms or Logical Domains) or SolarisContainers, you can limit the number of virtual CPUs seen by thesystem to <= 64 using the following commands as an EBSpre-installation step:

Solaris Containers:

To limit the number of dedicated VCPUs for a givenContainer, use the 'zonecfg(1M)' command's 'dedicated-cpu resource'and 'ncpus' property. The 'dedicated-cpu resource' specifies that asubset of the system's processors should be dedicated to a SolarisContainer while it is running, and 'ncpus' property specifies theactual number of VCPUs be dedicated for the Container.

The following example configures eight VCPUs for the SolarisContainer named "ebs1":

# zonecfg -z ebs1zonecfg:ebs1> add dedicated-cpuzonecfg:ebs1:dedicated-cpu> set ncpus=8zonecfg:ebs1:dedicated-cpu> endzonecfg:ebs1> verifyzonecfg:ebs1> commitzonecfg:ebs1> exit

Please review the SolarisContainers-Resource Management and Solaris Zones guide fordetailed information.

Oracle VM Server for SPARC (previously known as LDoms orLogical Domains) :

To set the number of VCPUs for a given Logical Domain (LDom),use the 'ldm(1M)' with the 'set-vcpu' option:

# /opt/SUNWldm/bin/ldm set-vcpu <<EM>number> <<EM>logical_domain>

For example to configure eight VCPUs for the Logical Domainnamed "ebs1":

# /opt/SUNWldm/bin/ldm set-vcpu 8 ebs1

Please review the Logical DomainsAdministration guide for detailed information.

Users can then revert the number of VPUs to the original ordesired values as a post EBS install step.

Java Performance on T-series Systems withUltraSPARC T1/T2/T2 Plus/T3/T4 processors

There was a known issue with the Java RuntimeEnvironment (JRE) on systems with UltraSPARC T1/T2/T2 Plus/T3/T4processors which are multi-socket, multi-core and can run multiplethreads in parallel. As the JRE treats the systems using theseprocessors (T-series systems) as a server class machine, the servercan appear to be a very large CPU machine and each Java VirtualMachine (JVM) could spawn anywhere from 32 to over 256 garbagecollector threads.

There was a pending bugfiled for the garbage collector issue which was fixed in JDK 6Update 14 (or higher). For older JDK 6 versions, we recommendedthat the following option be set for invoking the Java VM onT-series systems:

  • -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads= where is recommendedto be 4. For systems supporting larger loads, this could be as highas 8.

There are a number of places where the JVM option ("-XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=4") should be added (ifnot already there) using the Oracle Applications Managerinterface:

  • Log in to the EBS system as a system administrator, and clickon the 'System Administrator' responsibility
  • Under 'Oracle Applications Manager', click on 'AutoConfig'
  • For the Applications Tier row, click on Edit Parameters, and ifnecessary add the above JVM options to the following:
    • Under the System tab:
      • oaforms_server
        • s_forms_jvm_options
        • s_forms_jvm_start_options
        • s_forms_jvm_stop_options
      • oacore_server
        • s_oacore_jvm_start_options
        • s_oacore_jvm_stop_options
      • oafm_server
        • s_oafm_jvm_start_options
        • s_oafm_jvm_stop_options
    • Under the Environments tab:
      • oa_environment:adovars
        • s_adjreopts
        • s_appsjreopts
        • s_afjsmarg
  • For the Database Tier row, click on Edit Parameters:
    • Under the Environments tab:
      • oa_environment:rapid_install
        • s_adjreopts

Once these changes are made, you will need to re-run AutoConfigto ensure these changes take effect.
