i got it working today, so i've made this post to help you too.

 

Scenario: Windows 10 + VMWorkstation pro 12

Issue: While installing the application, the installer wizard stops while "installing virtual network drivers."

 

Solution:

1. Please have in mind the following:

     a. VMWare needs to be removed totally from the system

     b. the installed Virtual Network device driver for VMWare needs to be removed as well

 

2. Disable UAC in Windows (type Start > UAC > set on minimum)

3. Disable your Antivirus/Firewall (Kaspersky/Symantec i.e.)

4. Try to install VMWare as Administrator (Right click > Run as Administrator). When the application hangs at "Installing Virtual Network Drivers" go to:

5. Start > type Virtual Network Editor (this should have been installed by now by the VMWare install wizard)

6. In the Editor click right below on Change Settings

7. Open Task Manager and right click and kill two applications: the VMWare installation wizard and the VMWare Network drivers install tool (i cannot remember the name exactly, but it should be right below the VMWare wizard process)

8. After killing the processes, go to Virtual Editor and delete/remove all the networks that appear in the top list (should be listed as VMNet# etc)

9. Click Apply and wait for them to be removed.

10. Once removed, exit the Editor and go to in Control panel > DEVICE MANAGER

11. In Device manager > Network adapters > look for other devices other than your PHYSICAL Network cards. If you will see something like "VMWare Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMNet 8", right click on it and UNINSTALL.

12. Go to Add/Remove programs and check if VMWare workstation appears in the list. If it does > click on it > change > UNINSTALL. Wait for the uninstall to finish

13. Reboot the computer

14. Start > type Virtual Network Editor (no results should appear, this indicates that VMWare was uninstalled correctly. Check also the Add/Remove programs to be sure)

15. Go again to Device manager > Network adapters and see if the VMWare Virtual adapter is still there. If it is, remove it again, then click on Action > Scan for hardware changes to be sure it does not appear again. If it reappeared, after removal, you'll have to reboot again.

 

Final steps:

16. Once VMWare and the Adapter were uninstalled, now run the VMWare install wizard again, as Admin

17. When it stops again at the "installing virtual network drives", in the task bar you should see an app highlighted, but if you click on it, no window will appear on the screen. This is the VMWare virtual adapter installer window, which is hidden. While stuck on installation, simply right click on that window in the taskbar and click CLOSE. Wait a few moments, the installer should now jump to the following steps, finishing the installation.

18. At the end, in the Dev Manager the new adapter should appear, and all the entries in the Editor should have been recreated.

Now it works.

Notes:

     Don't try to repair the VMWare. If it keeps getting stuck, uninstall it several times, and delete the VM adapters several times, to get it working. For me it worked from the first time.

最近VMware Workstation又放出更新，遂更新之。安装时提示先卸载旧版本。控制面板和其他软件管理器都不能正常卸载，提示“ The MSI '' failed”，索性直接删除文件夹，清理了一下注册表，重启。再次安装，仍提示卸载旧版本，到网上找各种解决方法，也用了各种所谓清理工具，其实也是清理注册表，删除相关服务之类操作，仍不起作用。

其实这不是我第一次遇到这个问题，之前碰巧被这些清理工具搞定了，这次可没那么走运。最后终于找到了VMware的官方解决法案，还是官方靠得住，就是几个注册表，清理，重启，安装成功。相信很多朋友应该也或多或少遇到过这个问题，于是擅自翻译了一下，以济各位深陷苦恼的朋友。话说VMware官网的访问速度确实有些慢，我还是挂代理上的，而且有些解决方法的视频是放到Youtube上的…所以，啧啧，大家就不用谢我了。

PS:

1.推荐大家直接操作“手工清理Windows系统”部分，这是最终解决方案，虽然步骤繁多，但绝对100%成功，这要是再解决不了问题，我建议你重装系统…

2.文中提到的“VMware registrycleaner script”我已放到文章末尾处，他是提供给Workstation 4.x及更低版本用的，一般用不到。

原因

如果安装程序检测到其他VMware产品存在于计算机中，此VMware产品可能无法进行安装。尽管产品已被卸载，但这些产品仍可能被误认为仍存在于计算机中。在卸载的过程中，本应被移除的注册表信息若有残留，就会出现这种状况。若在卸载过程中发生了宕机（死机）或重启，注册表就会产生残留，用户许可证的问题也会产生残留。.当安装程序发现了这些注册表信息，它会终止安装。

措施

如果你从未安装过VMware的产品，但你在安装VMware ACE，VMware Server，VMware Player或VMware Workstation的时候仍出现问题，请参考修复不能安装的VMware主机产品 (1005027)

如果你出现了MSI错误，请参考修复VMware产品和工具安装过程中产生的MSI错误(1031302)

如果你的是Linux系统，并且使用的是VMware Workstation，请参考从Linux主机上手动卸载VMware Workstation(38)

先决步骤

1.确保以本地管理员身份登录Windows。对于安装程序需要用到的组件，域管理员可以不必拥有直接的访问权限，更多信息请参考：

2.禁用防火墙和反病毒软件。如果你的安全策略允许的话，禁用任何防火墙和你安装的反病毒软件。因为一些安全软件会干预安装进程。你可以通过Windows系统配置（msconfig）功能禁用所有的非微软启动项。更多信息请参考：使用Windows系统配置工具 (1004010). 然后重启Windows，以保证只有微软的服务在运行。（Windows下：点击“开始”>运行，输入msconfig，点击确认；或者按键盘Win + R，输入msconfig。然后选择“服务”选项卡，勾选“隐藏所有Microsoft服务”，点击“全部禁用”。——译者注）

2. 依据你使用的产品，参考以下步骤：

o如果你要卸载Workstation 5.x或者更高的版本，请使用Workstation卸载程序。

以本地管理员组成员的身份登录系统，从命令行运行安装程序，并附带一个选项来为VMware Workstation移除MSI注册表信息。更多信息请参考：打开命令行或Shell提示(1003892)。（Windows下：点击“开始”>运行，输入cmd，点击确认；或者按键盘Win + R，输入cmd，确定。——译者注）

• 如果你运行的是Workstation 5.x或 6.x，运行安装程序并附带/c选项。例如：

注意：

在你变更注册表之前，确保你已经正确并完整的备份了注册表和虚拟机。更多关于备份及还原注册表的信息，请参考：微软文章136393.

清理脚本VMware_Install_Cleaner.zip附在文章结束。

以本地管理员组成员的身份运行此脚本。注册表清理功能会移除Workstation 3.1，Workstation 3.2，Workstation 4.x，GSX Server 2.x，GSX Server 3.0，GSXServer 3.1，ACE Manager 1.0，及ACE 1.0在安装时用到的注册表键值。

如果以上步骤不能卸载此产品，并且仍然出现错误，请继续进行手工清理Windows系统步骤。手工清理过程需要移除VMware相关文件，VMware相关服务，注册表入口以及各种产品的组件。

手工清理Windows系统

要从Windows机器上手工清理VMware产品：

1. 以本地管理员身份或本地管理员组成员的身份登录Windwos

2. 在Windows上停止VMware服务：

o点击 开始 >运行,输入services.msc，点击“确认”。将打开“服务管理策略”。

o右击以下服务并选择停止。

VMware NAT Service

VMware USB Arbitration Service

VMware Workstation Server

VMware WSX Service

注意：依据不同的VMware产品，有一些服务不存在于你的Windows当中。

3. 卸载VMware network bridge adapter（网络桥接适配器）：

a.在Windows中打开网络连接选项：

Windows XP:点击 开始 > 设置 > 网络和拨号连接。

Windows Vista，Windows 7及Windows 2008 Server：点击 开始 >运行，输入ncpa.cpl，点击“确认”。将打开“网络连接”。

Windows 8 and Windows 2012 Server:打开运行(运行在哪?)（Win + R ——译者注），输入ncpa.cpl，点击“确认”。将打开“网络连接”。

b.依次右击所有网络适配器图标，并选择“属性”。

c.选择“VMwareBridge Protocol”，并点击“卸载”。

4. 卸载所有VMware设备：

a.右击“我的电脑”，选择“管理”。

b.点击“设备管理器”。

c.从“查看”菜单中选择“显示隐藏的设备”

d.双击“网络适配器”。

e.右击每一个名字以VMware开头的适配器，然后选择“卸载”。

5. 从Windows上删除包含VMware产品的文件夹。

注意：

o对于所有的文件夹，如果你只安装了一个VMware产品，你可以将整个VMware文件列表都删除。如果你还安装了其他产品，如VirtualCenter Client，则只删除你试图移除的产品的文件夹。

o在GSX Server机器上，要移除VMware GSX Server，VMware Management Interface，VMware Scripting API，以及其它VMware Virtual MachineConsole或VMware Remote Console的相关文件夹。

删除这些文件夹：

a.你的VMware产品的程序安装目录

注意：如果你的虚拟机存放在程序安装目录并且你想保留他们，在你删除VMware程序安装目录之前将他们移动到别的文件夹中。
