In this rapidly changing world, computer plays a more and more important role in people’s daily life. It is more likely that not only the adults use computer as their life assistant, the children also have an easy access to computer.

 

I tend to support that using computer on a daily basis may have more negative effects to young children. Many children use computer to play games or surf on the internet. As time goes by, they might become addicted to computer. The long time spent in front of the computer will be damaging to both the eyes and the physical posture of a young child. Besides, computer offers people an easy access to the outside world, which also enables the access to some mal-information such as violence or eroticism. This kind of information will erode children’s innocence and do harm to their mental development. Moreover, some computer-addicted children indulge themselves in the virtual world, leading to the isolation from other kids. How could them get along with other kids without playing with them?

 

In spite of all these demerits mentioned above, the obvious benefits of computer skills for young children can not be denied. Since our lives rely on computer much more than before, it is necessary for children to lay a foundation of computer skills to save it for a rainy day. The computer also makes it possible for children to surf in the sea of knowledge without going out. Thus the children can save a lot of time reading in an internet-based library, instead of going to a real library.

 

I think the main point is to make sure that young children do not overuse computers. Parents must ensure that their children enjoy other activities and not simply sit at home, living in a virtual world.
