Team/Department Mission

Symantec sells its products aroundthe world and derives approx. half of its revenue from outside the UnitedStates. A lot of Symantec's existing enterprise security products, Veritas'Storage, and newly acquired products, have internalization limitations thatprevent us from successfully penetrating international markets. Thus theseproducts require internationalization (I18n). Internationalization is theprocess of engineering world-ready software that fully supports the input,manipulation, and display of both single-byte European and multi-byte Asiancharacter sets. It involves the development of products which don't make assumptionsbased on a single language or locale and whose source code base simplifies thecreation of different language editions of a product. An internationalizedproduct/website should be useable anywhere in the world out-of-the-box.Internationalization also provides the framework in which localization takesplace more easily and more efficiently. To be more successful in this area,Symantec created a world-wide I18n group which provides development andcertification consultancy services to the product development groups in thedesign and implementation of internationalization. This group maintains direct contact with developmentteams, local sales offices and localization departments.

 

The role’s purpose is to contribute tobetter defining/analyses of the competitive landscape, technology trends andproducts integration quality and risks within the internationalization area.

 

Daily tasks will include:

 

·        using Symantec marketing and independentsources Identify key global and regional competition for Symantecproducts 

·        set up testing environments in differentlanguages

·        create real life scenarios forinternationalization tests and conduct such tests

·        analyze received results, write reports

 

 

Qualifications:

 

·        The candidate should have interest in QAanalyses

·        Experience in IT administration or softwaretesting

·        Understanding of storage management and dataprotection enterprise solutions

·        Wants to learn how to test and developinternationalized software

·        Analytical problemsolver who is able to make smart, simplifying assumptions

·        Creative who can get things done with littlesupervision, proactive

·        Good communicator both writing and verbally,in English

·        Has technical bachelor degree or on finalyear. 

 

Knowledgeof other languages is an advantage
