BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express v5.0 Service Pack 3 provides a number of new features, including:

BlackBerry Balance technology enables BlackBerry smartphones to be used for business and personal purposes without compromise. When connected to an organization's BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express¹, specific IT policies along with features built into the device software² help keep personal information separate and business information highly secure, allowing users to enjoy a full work-life experience on a single device.

Runs on the Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Small Business Server
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is certified for up to 75 BlackBerry smartphone users to be installed and run on the same server that runs Microsoft® Exchange 2003 SP2, 2007 SP1, 2010 or Windows® Small Business Server 2003 and 2008. This eliminates the need to purchase additional hardware. If you require greater than 75 users, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express has the flexibility to be installed on a separate server, supporting up to 2,000 BlackBerry smartphone users per server.

In an IBM® Lotus® Domino® environment, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express must be installed on a dedicated server and can support 2000 users.

Easy-to-use management console
The BlackBerry® Administration Service provides web-based access to do the following:

• Manage smartphones in your organization, including resetting passwords, or remotely wiping lost or stolen smartphones. Choose from over 75 IT policies.
• Delegate tasks with 6 preconfigured IT administration roles.
• Deploy and manage applications over-the-air.
• Schedule device, application and IT policy updates.
• Update BlackBerry® Device Software wirelessly without users having to bring the device to IT.

The BlackBerry Administration Service also includes pre-defined administration groups, controls for searching and displaying results, and the option to configure BlackBerry Administration Service instances to communicate with each other using additional protocols.

User self service
With BlackBerry® Web Desktop Manager, end users can secure their BlackBerry smartphone, including the ability to lock, delete all data on or disable the smartphone if it’s lost or stolen.

Single sign-on
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express enables organizations to configure the BlackBerry Administration Service and BlackBerry MDS Connection Service to authenticate users to the organization's network, automatically, using their Windows® accounts. 

Logging features
When the BlackBerry Configuration Panel is used to change Microsoft® Active Directory® account information, the BlackBerry Configuration Panel can write the following information to its log file:

• Name of the Windows account that was used to log in to the computer
• Date and time

IT policies
Over 75 IT policies provide administrators with control over the BlackBerry smartphone deployment.

IT Policy reconciliation allows administrators to apply policies to groups. End users will then have a policy that is blended due to membership in multiple groups.

Platform certification
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express supports the following:

• Windows Server® 2008 R2
• Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2
• Microsoft® Hyper-V® 2008
• Additional web browsers that access the BlackBerry Administration Service and BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager

Easy set-up and installation
The setup application includes the option to remotely stop BlackBerry Administration Service services on other computers during the upgrade process, verification that the SRP ID specified is available for use and that sufficient disk space is available for installation.
