I would prefer to work on new projects from initial creation to final delivery, and be responsible for the long term architecuture throughout the whole project life cycle.

I hate taking those projects with bad design and implementation that were transfered to my hand while still in progress.

Unfortunately I suffer from that case recently. There are some projects were designed in short-term patch in my company, their run on somewhere unknown corner, my company has more than 300 servers run in data center, and we have to pay several millions RMB license and maintenance cost to Microsoft, Oracle and other vendors.

The activities initiated by recent Global Financia Crisis in order to reduce IT cost & investment came out. I took several projects like that, for example DB server consolidation, server migration, consolidate all versions of a certain program into one version. They are all very tedious and time-consuming. My boss don't think so, he said that we have already implemented the functions, so it's should be eazy to upgrade, and he push me very hard. But finally, I persuaded him to accept my thought. You know, you must be very familiar with it before you can perform the modification.

Actually every company process or system has some issues, I would prefer to take some actions to work out the solutions and action plan to improve  the process/system firstly, and then submit to management to decide, and don't want to talk around to bring everyone awareness that there are issues, people are not blind.

The greate challenge I encountered is resource issue e.g. man power, man-day. Projects are very intimidating in size of scope.

Technical and English ability is my strong point.

When I first came into this company, I encountered a problem and often was waken up  to responsible for production down due to server or database services down issues. The central database is too old, and intimeliness to support production. And application serve use microsoft DCOM technology to collect production data, which is implemented in single thread and sychronized, that is, work stations have queue in line to invoke the interface to get things done which is provided by DCOM server. With the business volume growth, the data capacity increasing as well, and the server became slow to response. Although many colleagues already know the existence of this issue, but they don't want to take initiative to improve because too much of work to do and achivement is hard to be seen by management. Finally I reimplemented and upgrade the data collection system by using Microsoft COMPlus technology, multiple threads and synchronized in program, and implement memory database for those production critical data, finally achived 10 times of performance improvement.

And another case,
Users complained that report too time-consuming, sometimes need 20 minutes even 1 hour to pull out the report, the user level is quite high, a Vice Predident, and attractived the attention of our Vice President, he gave a command to our team that we must improved the function to get the result from around half hour to half minutes, we are all feel frustrated within the team.
