No man is an island,
entire of itself;
every man is a piece of the continent,
a part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
as well as if a promontory were,
as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were:
any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind,
and, therefore,
never send to know for whom the bells tolls;
it tolls for thee.

海明威曾相当喜爱此诗，将之刊选在其小说“战地钟声”(For Whom the Bell Tolls) 的
扉页。李敖也曾为此诗感动，并将之翻译成中文如下：

没有人能自全，
没有人是孤岛，
每人都是大陆的一片，
