Hello,

Thank you for contacting Point Grey Support.
Could you please let me know which application you are using the camera with?
If the application supports Direct Show interface, you will be able to use the
camera. DirectShow dlls will need to be registered, please see:
 www.ptgrey.com/support/kb/index.asp?a=4&q=310

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hello, Akhila
Thanks for your reply.
I am using the Windows8 64bit, and on the webpage you give me, it says "On 64-bit systems, the 32-bit version of the FlyCapture SDK must be installed in order to run 32-bit DirectShow applications. However, when installing the 32-bit FlyCapture SDK on Win64, the 32-bit DirectShow DLLs are not automaticallly registered. ".  However, I am using 64 bit OS and I downloaded the 64bit "FlyCapture v2.4 Release 10 - Windows (64-bit Download) (exe) 166.85 MB
FlyCapture v2.4 Release 10 - Windows (64-bit GTK Runtime) (exe) 63.61 MB", so what should I do now? Do I need to register the "PGRDirectShowDecoder.ax & PGRDirectShowSource.ax" mannually and install the 32bit SDK again? And if the command is still "regsvr32" for 64bit SDK?
Meanwhile, for the directshow application, I am using the C++ console application. I can use my integrated webcam on my notebook in the console, but I still cannot use the Flea3 usb3 camera, I don't know why, could you give me a hand? I only use the usb3 cable to connect the computer and the camera, do I need to get an extra GPIO cable to make the directshow function available?
Thank you very much
Best reagards,
Terry

Hi Terry,

 Thanks for your email.
Is your DirectShow application 32 or 64 bit? Depending on that, you would need
to register the right DirectShow dlls.
Please note that it is not possible to use two or more cameras at once with
 DirectShow.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
 Regards,
 Akhila

Hi, Akhila
Thanks for your help, I think I do need to register the dll both 32 and 64 bit.
And there is another question, if I want to use two cameras at the same time, if there are some methods to do that? I mean make two Flea USB3 cameras working together, recording together....
Very very thanks for your help
Terry

Hi Terry,Were you able to get the camera running with your DirectShow application? Please note that it is not possible to use two cameras at the same time withDirectShow. However, it is possible to do so using FlyCap2. Would it be feasible for you touse the FlyCap2 SDK? If you are writing your own C++ programs, please see ourFlyCapture2 SDK example programs.Regards,AkhilaPlease note that emails which are not responded to in 7 calendar days will result in the ticket being closed. Hi Akhila
If  I want to use your FlyCap2 software, with two or more camera working simultaneously, recording videos, could you tell me how to do it step by step?
Thanks very much.

Hi Terry,

To synchronize two Flea3 USB3 cameras, you will need to trigger the cameras
externally, either by a hardware trigger on GPIO or a by using a software
 trigger.
Please see the example program AsyncTriggerEx for an idea of software
triggering the cameras. Also, please refer to this article:

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi, Akhila

So from the information you gave me, could I regard it that the "Point Grey FlyCap2.exe" cannot synchronize two cameras simultaneously (recording videos at the same time) and I have to use the codes in the samples to control the two cameras work together to record video?

The environment I am using is Window 8 pro x64, 8GB RAM and the SDK I installed is "FlyCapture2.5.2.3_x64" and "PGR_GTKmm_x64.exe".  If there are some methods to use the execution Files in bin64 to make two cameras record videos together?
Thank you sincerely

Hi Terry,

It is possible to use two different FlyCap2 windows and run both cameras at
once. If you need both cameras to be synchronized, you will need to trigger
 them.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi

In the bin folder, there are "PGRDirectShowDecoder_v90.ax","PGRDirectShowDecoder_v100.ax" and "PGRDirectShowDecoder.ax" three kinds of files, the same with "PGRDirectShowSource.ax" files. May I know what the "V**" used for? Which one is used for VS10 and Windows8?
Thanks
Terry
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Terry,

PGRDirectShowDecoder_v100.ax is for Visual Studio 2010 and it will work on
Windows 8 as well. Please note that using DirectShow, you will not be able to
 run two cameras simultaneously.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hi,  Akhila
So to use the directshow in my console programs (programmed by VS2010), I should register the V100 files, is it right?
I search the internet and get to know that there are researchers who succeed to use directshow to run two cameras simultaneously. So by you means "the directshow cannot support multiple cameras", can I regard it as the Flea3 U3 cameras do not support multiple cameras working on directshow? Or it is the DirectShow's problem which make the system cannot run multiple cameras simultaneously based on directshow?
Thanks
Regards
Terry
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Terry,

Yes that's right. Our DirectShow interface supports switching between multiple
cameras, but it does not support streaming from multiple cameras at the same
 time.
Our C++ API on the other hand, supports both switching between multiple
cameras, and streaming from multiple cameras simultaneously.

 Regards,
 Akhila

Hi, Akhila

May I ask a question about the USB3.0 drivers?
As the documents says there are two drivers for USB3.0, on is UsbPro and the other is the PGRCamera (or the PGRUsb?) The question is what are the differences between these two kinds of drivers? Both of them are suitable to USB3.0 cameras, but what is the different influence??

If I want to use multiple cameras, which one is better? and which one is suitable for directshow?

Thanks
Terry
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Terry,The USB Pro driver is installed on the USB3.0 interface card while the PGR USBCam driver is a camera driver for controlling the camera. The USB 3.0 Prodriver provides additional diagnostics, full control of the driver stack, andimproved compatibility for multiple camera systems. Additionally, there isricher support for third party software utilizing the DirectShow library suchas LabView and Matlab. However, the USB Pro driver is supported only on certainhost controllers and works solely for Point Grey cameras. If you have any questions, please let me know.Regards.AkhilaPlease note that emails which are not responded to in 7 calendar days will result in the ticket being closed. Hi, A******
We have already decided to use your GTKmm to build our system.
Our question is which part(or function) of the code, is the trigger of shuttle and which part is to capture the image.
PLZ  answer the question with the range of the Lines that doing this job or the NAME of the functions, and the NAME of the ".cpp" where the code we need is located.
If you don't know this thing, can you help us to forward this question to your technical staff?
Thanks.
Regards.

Hello Mingchang,Thanks for clarifying your question. In the FlyCap2_GTKmm example please see the FlycapWindow.cpp program and lookfor 'error = m_pCamera->StartCapture();'StartCapture() is used to start the camera. Please refer to the FlyCapture2 APIReference (found in FlyCap2 > Documentation) for more information.Regards,AkhilaPlease note that emails which are not responded to in 7 calendar days will result in the ticket being closed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, Akhila
When I run the GTKmm programme, I can make both the cameras running and capturing pictures, but the when I run the sample codes in "MultipleCameraEx", the dialog below is the things I got. I've installed the x64 SDK and driver "PGR CAM" (not the USB pro, cause I do need the usb3.0 port to read other things), and make the platform x64 and debug mode, when I run (start debug) the codes, it cannot get the showing windows out and always give me the errors.
As I am using the Flea3 U3 cameras, I've changed the code into  "error = ppCameras[i]->SetVideoModeAndFrameRate( VIDEOMODE_1280x960RGB,  FRAMERATE_30 ); ". But the programe does not give a inspiring result......Is there some problem with it?
BTW, after building the sample project, where can I get the executable files to run them from command? Do I need to debug them every time to run the sample codes?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Terry,The example program MultipleCameraEx uses the function StartSyncCapture() whichwill not work for USB cameras (this only works for FireWire cameras). This isbecause this function starts the cameras and checks to see if their timestampsare in sync. USB cameras will not pass this call because each camera has itsown internal clock and the timestamps from two cameras will not match. To synchronizing USB3.0 cameras, please externally trigger them by software orhardware, and use StartCapture() in MultipleCameraEx instead. You can find the executables in C:\Program Files\Point GreyResearch\FlyCapture2\binIf you have any questions, please let me know.Regards,AkhilaPlease note that emails which are not responded to in 7 calendar days will result in the ticket being closed.
