Theydiscover a wardrobe in Professor Digory Kirke'shouse that leads to the magical land of Narnia. The Pevensiechildren help Aslan, a talking lion, save Narnia from the evilWhite Witch, who hasreigned over the land of Narnia for a century of perpetual winter.The children become kings and queens of this new-found land andestablish the Golden Age of Narnia, leaving a legacy to berediscovered in later books.

Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia(1951)

Completedafter Christmas 1949[18]and published on 15 October 1951, Prince Caspian: The Return toNarnia tells the story of the Pevensie children's second tripto Narnia. They are drawn back by the power of Susan's horn, blownby Prince Caspian tosummon help in his hour of need. Narnia, as they knew it, is nomore, as more than 1,000 years have passed and their castle is inruins, while all Narnians have retreated so far within themselvesthat only Aslan's magic can wake them. Caspian has fled into thewoods to escape his uncle, Miraz, who has usurped thethrone. The children set out once again to save Narnia.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader(1952)

Writtenbetween January and February 1950[19]and published on 15 September 1952, The Voyage of the ‘DawnTreader’ sees Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with theirpriggish cousin, Eustace Scrubb,return to Narnia. Once there, they join Caspian's voyage on theship Dawn Treader to find the seven lords who were banishedwhen Miraz took over the throne. This perilous journey brings themface to face with many wonders and dangers as they sail towardAslan's country at the edge of the world.

The SilverChair (1953)

Completedat the beginning of March 1951[19]and published 7 September 1953, The Silver Chair is thefirst Narnia book without any of the Pevensie children. Instead,Aslan calls Eustace back to Narnia together with his classmateJill Pole. There theyare given four signs to aid in the search for Prince Rilian,Caspian's son, who disappeared after setting out ten years earlierto avenge his mother's death. 50 years have passed in Narnia andCaspian, who was barely an adult in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader,is now an old man, while Eustace is still a child.

Eustaceand Jill, with the help of Puddleglum theMarsh-wiggle,face danger and betrayal on their quest to find Rilian.

The Horseand His Boy (1954)

Begun inMarch and completed at the end of July 1950,[19]The Horse and His Boy was published on 6 September 1954. Thestory takes place during the reign of the Pevensies in Narnia, anera which begins and ends in the last chapter of The Lion, theWitch and the Wardrobe. A talking horse called Bree and a youngboy named Shasta, both ofwhom are in bondage in the country of Calormen, are theprotagonists. By "chance", they meet and plan their return toNarnia and freedom. Along the way they meet Aravis and her talkinghorse Hwin who are also fleeingto Narnia.

TheMagician's Nephew (1955)

Completedin February 1954[20]and published by Bodley Head in London on 2 May 1955, the prequelThe Magician's Nephew brings the reader back to the originsof Narnia where we learn how Aslan created the world and how evilfirst entered it. Digory Kirke andhis friend Polly Plummerstumble into different worlds by experimenting with magic ringsmade by Digory's uncle. They encounter Jadis (The WhiteWitch) in the dying world of Charn, and witness the creation ofNarnia. Many long-standing questions about the world are answeredas a result. The story was set in 1900, when Digory was a12-year-old boy. He is a middle-aged professor and host to thePevensie children by the time of The Lion, the Witch and theWardrobe 40 years later.

The LastBattle (1956)

Completedin March 1953[21]and published 4 September 1956, The Last Battle chroniclesthe end of the world of Narnia. Jill and Eustace return to saveNarnia from Shift, an ape,who tricks Puzzle, adonkey, into impersonating the lion Aslan, precipitating a showdownbetween the Calormenes and King Tirian.
