1. Why Enterprise Architecture

Two key reasons why an EA is needed

-Critical to business survival and success

-Enables managed innovation within the enterprise

Pressure to develop EA

-Laws and regulations

-More extended enterprises

-More co-operative IT operations

-Greater publicity to failures

-Increase in litigation

-Audit requirements

2.The Importance of Governance

An EA is only as good as the decision making framework that is established around it's 'governance' framework

The Governance Framework depends on:

-Clear authority structure

-The right participants

What do we mean by Governance?

-Who is responsible?

-Who is involved?

-Who is accountable?

Methods & Standards

(waterfall, Agile)

3. Six steps to Governance

 Set your Goals

The core statements that guide the operation and development of the information supply chain

Define your Metrics

(assess how you get success. What sort of things we gonna do first? How we assign them off to make sure we've done the right thing)

The set of measurements used to assess the ongoing effectiveness of the program and associated governance processes.

Make Decisions

(How we going to make decision? who are going to make decisions) 43:37

The organisational structure and changing ideological model to analyse and make policy decisions

Communicate Policy

The tools, skills and techniques used to communicate policy decisions to the organisation.

Measure Outcomes

Compare policy results with goals, inputs, decision models, and communication to provide constant feedback on policy effectiveness.

Audit results

The tool you use to benchmark everything,

4. EA Governance

Business Model Management

-Require appropriate business model management tools for EA

-Included the need to manage Process Models(Business changes very quickly), Data Models, Architectural schema org charts. etc.

-Business Modeling tool provides the supporting governance environment required for IS activity to meet business objectives and development standards.

5. What is ARIS?

ARIS is able to manage the complexity inherent in the various business models and to ensure model consistency and provides for management of Zachman Framework Enterprise Architecture objects.

An EA Tool

To design and manage business process modeling, providing output to help manage related items such as user roles, organizational units and system interfaces.

EA is about understanding all of the different elements that go to make up the Enterprise and how those elements inter-relate.

A Database: Business Modeling Repository

Tracks Relationships between Business Objects

Provides the benefits of a relational database, but for processes

A Strategic Combination

A combination of tool, database and integration with other tools make this a superior tool for modeling business processes, especially for large, integrated systems, such as SAP

A Framework/Modeling Methodology

Using a methodology focuses on business processes and the events that trigger them - 'Event-driven Process Chains' or EPCs.

ARIS (the Methodology) uses EPCs (Event Driven Process Chain Diagrams) as a central model to collect information about the organization.
