The reverse atom transfer radical polymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) were carried out at 80 using N, N, N′, N′-teramethylethylendiamin (TMEDA)/CuBr2 as the catalyst, AIBN as initiator, and xylene as solvent. GPC results and monomer conversion showed that the polymerization of MMA represents well controlled, the number-average molecular weight increases linearly with monomer conversion and during the whole polymerization, the polydispersities are low, however the polymerization of BA is uncontrolled. The resultant PMMA obtained from TMEDA/CuBr2 system was characterized by 1H-NMR spectroscopy, and the result showed that the polymerization kinetic is RATRP, and thepolymer is random structure.
