        In December, signs of Christmas surround you. Even in Asia, stores and public places sparkle with Christmas trees and lights. Stars, angels and candy canes bring smiles to many faces. Have you ever wondered, though, what all the decorations mean? If you asked your Western friends, they might not know for sure. But most items do have a history and a special meaning.

Wreath
        Wreaths hang on the front doors of many homes at Christmas. Why? The round shape symbolizes Unending love for family and friends.
Mistletoe
        Everyone loves mistletoe at Christmas. If you get caught standing under the mistletoe, someone has to kiss you! This romantic plant symbolizes peace, happiness and welcome. In ancient times, if enemies accidentally met underneath mistletoe, they had to hug and stop fighting for a day.
Christmas Trees
        The firs-known decorated Christmas tree was erected in 1510, in Latvia. People around the world have been decoration Christmas trees ever since. Because the evergreen trees stay green all year, they’re a symbol of never-ending life. They also remind us that winter will soon pass.
