My wife and I are taking a trip to Paris and Rome. We will be in each city for 4 full days not including travel. This is both our first time to go out of the USA. Therefore, I have some questions for you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have read over the forum about the eternal question on what to wear! I have searched the forum and found a lot of good information but I would like to go more in depth with this subject. We want to show our respect for the local people and to make ourselfs as small of a target as possible to thieves. We would like to dress appropriately when in Paris and Rom. However, we do realize that whatever we do we will still look like tourists but we want to show our respect to these countries. We will dress comfortably but we would like to match the locals.

From what I have been able to gather from everyones advice on this forum is if we dress good in Rome then we will be dressed good for Paris. Therefore, most of my research has been geared towards Italian locals. This is what I have found the basics of Italy fashion:

Jeans are acceptable if they are form fitting

No white sneakers, t shirts with logos or names

Kakies are acceptable but slacks are preferred

Leather shoes are preferred over nice sneakers

Wear neutral colors,louis vuitton outlet store, black, grey, or brown

Polos and button up shirts are preferred

No shorts, unless going to the beach

I think there's a lot of fuss over dress codes and what tourists should / shouldn't wear: )

For example, I do wear shorts during the day in summer, when I'm not at work and the weather is hot, and sometimes white sneakers too.

I would suggest you to choose clothes and shoes you are comfortable in, suiting your style and appearance. White sneakers to stroll around the city during a summer day are perfectly ok, why not?
