the protocol part (usually HTTP) tells the browser the method it should use to retrieve the resource

the website name (which consists of the server name and the domain name) tells the browser which computer on the internet to get the resource from (use DNS)

the absolute path tells the server what page you're after

Domain name: just a unique name that is used to locate your site.

Domain names are controlled by a centralized authority (ICANN) to make sure that only one person at a time uses a domain name.

website name vs. domain name

1) If you look at www.starbuzzcoffee.com, that’s a website name, but only the “starbuzzcoffee.com” part is the domain name. You could
also create other websites that use the same domain name, like corporate.starbuzzcoffee. com or employees.starbuzzcoffee.com. So
the domain name is something you can use for a lot of websites.

2) Buy a domain name is like buying a land, and you can build many websites in the land.

HTTP

A Uniform Resource  Locator (URL) is a global address that can be used to locate anything on the Web, including HTML pages, audio,
video, and many other forms of web content.
In addition to specifying the location of the resource, a URL also names the protocol that you can use to retrieve that resource.

2.

HTTP: is also known as the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. It's an agreed-upon method (a protocol) for transferrinng hypertext domcuments aournd the Web.

While “hypertext documents” are usually just HTML pages, the protocol can also be used to transfer images, or any other file that a web page might need.

HTTP is a simple request and response protocol.

Absolute path

1. definition: an absolute path tells the server how to get from your root folder to a particular page or file.
