Here’s the scenario, one day your boss told you there’s an urgent project, and he wanted you to finish it before %^$*). And unfortunately, you have no idea about the development tool and environment. It sounds impossible, what you gotta do? Giving up or grabbing the very chance?
The people who said ‘yes’ are warriors and I guess they all have their own reasons, if so, the article’s not suite you. I wrote the page for those who said ‘no’.
First, I want to list some reasons some people want to say ‘no’
1) There’s a lot of pressures
2) The time’s too short
3) I’m a good engineer but I have no idea about the development tool/ environment.
4) I don’t like my boss.
So I think these 4 reasons are main, I guess. I happened to finish a project like the scenarios, and I said ‘yes’ to my boss and the project sees not bad so far. I want to share some experiences and solutions with you.
About the first solution against first reason is:
Take easy, pressure can crash you and your innovation. Suppose that, one afternoon, you make yourself a great cup of coffee, and you always want to understand a technique, like LINQ, but you always have no time. Accidently, that afternoon you finish all your jobs, you have spare time to do the thing you always want to do. You dig into it and understand it just in 10 Mins.
The reason that you’re so awesome in that afternoon is you have no pressure and you’ve got your innovation. So my first suggestion’s ease yourself don’t give yourself too much pressure. I think the pressure doesn’t equal productive and creative. Keep yourself easy and make the brain clear.

About the second solution against second reason is:
Yeah, the time’s always short like the life isn’t it? So there are no more reasons to waste. OT’s necessary for an urgent project. Based on my experience, the Sunday and Saturday are both great timing for the OT. Suppose that, you’re stuck in some design or implement problem and you can’t figure out. There’re always too many people and too many things you need to handle in regular working time. Then going to office on Sunday/Saturday, because you know that on Sunday/Saturday, no one bothers you and you have your own mind. Actually, I have figured out some problems when I was in office on Sunday/Saturday.

About the third solution against third reason is:
That’s the key problem; some great engineers can’t take over the project. ‘Cause they’re afraid, they’re afraid that they can’t master a new technique in such short time.
My solution’s that make yourself exciting but afraid next time when you encounter some new tech. Tech was created by common people like you and me. The key of the solution’s think as a great programmer think! Suppose that, in Hollywood adventure movies, like Country Treasure, starring by Nicolas Cage. Nicolas and his beautiful girlfriend were in a hole which made by some ancient people and they’re going to die, meanwhile, his enemy is chasing they. He always can find the escaping way. How could he possibly do that? I guess the key is as a historian he thinks as the ancient people think. And that’s why he could find the escaping way. The story tells us that when you try to use some new tech, just use it and think like a great programmer thinks, like the author of the tech. Then you would find that his design is just for you!

About the forth solution against forth reason is:
My solution’s easy, fire your boss
