How to manually install the Web Add-in Agent for Google Chrome browser?

Solution

1. Remove existing agent on Chrome (if any).
2. Locate CRX.
3. (Old versions) Extract CRX.
4. Install CRX on Chrome.
5. Confirm Agent installation.
   1. Clicking the “Add” button in the “Confirm New Extension” dialog.
      
      
   2. Unified Functional Testing Agent extension should be visible from in the Chrome Extensions list (chrome://extensions/).
      
      
      

      Note: If you encounter any popup (either related to the extension or Developer Mode) after starting Chrome, make sure you click on Cancel(or you can simply ignore it). Do NOT click on Disable.

6. Restart Chrome (This step is very important!).

Remove existing agent on Chrome (if any)

1. Start Chrome
2. Access the Extensions listing:
3. Navigate to the URL: chrome://extensions
   
   Or...
   
   
4. Go to Chrome menu (ALT+F) > Tools > Extensions.
   
   
5. Remove any present QuickTest Professional (QTP) / Unified Functional Testing (UFT) Agent extension (click the gargabe icon).
   
   
   
6. Restart Chrome.
7. Ensure Agent is not listed under "Extensions".

Locate CRX.

If installing default version offered by presently installed QuickTest Professional (QTP) / Unified Functional Testing (UFT), search under<QTP/UFT>\bin\Chrome

Notes:

• The "P" on UFT 11.53 P 2 represents "Patch".
• UFT 11.53 Patch 2.1 is UFT 11.50 + UFT_00044 + UFT_00068 + UFTWEB_0001.
• The "+" sign, represents core/patch versions afterwards, if any.
• "Online"/"Offline" terms, represent if Chrome machine has access to Google Store or not.

Extract CRX

• UFT 11.53 Patch 2 + Browser Cert Patch, UFT 11.53 Patch 3, UFT 12.01 and later, with Chrome 31 and later
  
  This is already extracted under <UFT>\bin\Chrome\Extension.
  
  
• QTP11, UFT 11.50 - 11.53 Patch 2 and UFT 12.00, with its supported Chrome version
  1. Create a copy of the Agent.crx file you see in the above folder and rename the copied file extension to Agent.zip (Keep the copied file in the same folder as the Agent.crx file).
     
     
  2. Extract Agent.zip to a folder called "Agent". Note: If any error while extracting, use 3rd party agents such as 7zip, WinRar or WinZip.
     
     
  3. Verify that the above steps ran correctly.
     
     
  4. Your <UFT>\bin\Chrome folder should now look like:
      
     
     
  5. The folder <UFT_INSTALLATION_FOLDER>\bin\Chrome should include the following file/directory:
     • Agent [Directory].
     • Manifest.json.

Install CRX on Chrome

Use either of below methods, according to respective QTP/UFT/Chrome versions:

1. Google Store:
   1. Access\Navigate to Google Store source link (see "Online" path for respective UFT/Chrome version).
   2. Click "Free" (or "Install") option on upper right corner of displayed screen.
      
      
2. Drag & Drop CRX.
   1. Drag respective Agent.CRX file (see "Locate CRX" section above).
   2. Navigate to the URL: chrome://extensions.
   3. Drop dragged CRX on Chrome Extension page.
      
      
3. Load unpacked extension.
   1. Navigate to the URL: chrome://extensions.
   2. Enable Developer Mode by checking the “Developer Mode” option in the Extensions page.
      
   3. Click on the “Load unpacked extension” button.
       
      
      
   4. In the “Browse For Folder” dialog, select desired folder according to steps from "Extract CRX" section (see above).
