开始解释题目的含义：

　　sonogram: An image, as of an unborn fetus or an internal body organ, produced by ultrasonography.

　　超声波扫描图由超声波扫描所产生的未出生的胎儿或某一体内器官的图像.

　　虽然能大体知道这一集要讲什么，可是，弄不明白的一点，这里end代表什么呢？有人能够给我解答一下吗？

　　

　　【场景】：Central Perk，大家在讨论kiss

　　Monica: What you guys don‘t understand is, for us, kissing is as important as any part of it.

　　翻译：你们男人都不明白的是，对于我们（女人）来说，接吻的每个步骤都很重要。

　　不知道这么翻译对不对，这里的it是代指kissing吗？any part of it，接吻的每一步骤？

　　

　　Rachel: Everything you need to know is in that first kiss.

　　起初不太明白为什么这里用的介词in（大家不要怪我咬文嚼字，既然是详细地记日记，我当然每个单词都要推敲了），难道是在kiss的过程中，一方的lips进入另一方的？（笑）后来想想，可能是in that first kiss thing之类的省略吧

　　

　　Chandler: Yeah, I think for us, kissing is pretty much like an opening act, y‘know? I mean it‘s like the stand-up comedian you have to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out.

　　opening act：开场、序幕。act有“戏剧的幕”的意思

　　sit through：一直挺到结束，耐着性子看完（或听完）

　　Pink Floyd：是当今最负盛名的“迷幻摇滚乐队”

　　翻译：是的，我认为对我们来说，接吻更像是开场，明白吗？我的意思是，就好比在Pink Floyd的出场前，你得耐着性子看完站立着的喜剧演员（的表演）。

　　Chandler的比喻大家看明白了吗？就是说对于男性来说，接吻只是一个开头，他们更在乎的是直接进入“主题”，得到更精彩的部分。网上有些翻译为 “就像佛洛伊飞船出场前，你得耐著性子先看完脱口秀”，根据后来看的剧本，我觉得这样没有把Chandler真正想提到的大家都喜欢的乐队翻译出来，而且后来Rachel的台词中有"album"，所以我觉得还是自己的翻译好一些

　　

　　【场景】在史前博物馆里

　　Marsha: Well, she has issues.

　　Marsha是Ross的同事。issues之前已经讲过了。在这里是烦恼、问题的意思。以后碰到别人好像闷闷不乐的时候，你就可以上前来上一句Do you have any issues? （这个转载于某个帖子）

　　

　　【另一场景，在家里】

　　Monica: (taking a drink from Joey) Are you through with that?

　　翻译：你喝完了吗？

　　through：有“完成；完成之际；没有联系”的意思。

　　比如，（1）She was through with the project.她完成了这个项目

　　（2）I‘m through with him.我已经同他分手了

　　

　　Monica: Whose little ball of paper is this?!

　　little ball of paper：小纸团

　　

　　Chandler: Oh, uh, that would be mine. See, I wrote a note to myself, and then I realised I didn‘t need it, so I balled it up and... (sees that Monica is glaring at him) ...now I wish I was dead.

　　ball it up：把（纸）揉成团

　　因为Monica有洁僻，而且总是因此指责（scold）其他室友，所以Chandler说I wish I was dead.（哈哈）

　　

　　【场景】Rachel把订婚戒指丢了，大家在帮忙找。

　　Phoebe: Doy! Probably right before she lost it!

　　Chandler: You don‘t get a lot of ‘doy‘ these days...

　　Rachel: I know I had it this morning, and I know I had it when I was in the kitchen with...

　　Chandler: ...Dinah?

　　这里，doy的意思。一般来说，老美用duh表示stupidy（音比较像），有时用doy来代替duh，表示同样意思。

　　Dinah是什么意思？我查找了一下，没有找到。有些翻译为“面条”。想请问这里的达人，知道的麻烦告知

　　

　　【场景】Monica and Rachel‘s, Monica and Ross are pouring wine for their parents.

　　Mrs. Geller: They all had a thing for him.

　　这里的him是指Ross。have a thing for sb.喜欢某人（窃喜，又学会了一种用法 ）

　　

　　【场景】Monica让Ross帮忙做意大利面条(spaghetti)，他们的父母就对Monica说，做意大利面条很简单，（用不着帮忙）。因为 Ross从小在父母眼里是不会做错事的小孩(as far as their parents are concerned, Ross can do no wrong.)，而Monica则是一个独立的女生，而且早期的时候还很胖(chubby)，没有朋友，自己在房间看书和玩猜谜（puzzle），所以父母亲总是讽刺Monica，（这幕在这一集中的中间有讲到），于是Mon对Ross说

　　Monica: I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning on bringing up the whole baby/lesbian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me.

　　翻译：我知道这样要求过于自私。你能不能和他们说一下小孩/女同性恋之类的事？因为这样可以让我喘口气

　　take the heat off：减轻压力

　　

　　【场景】Time Lapse, everyone is now eating.

　　Mrs. Geller: What that Rachel did to her life.... We ran into her parents at the club, they were not playing very well.

　　翻译：瑞秋到底怎么了?我们在俱乐部遇见她父母，他们很不开心

　　run into：撞见，遇见（带有很大的偶然性）

　　

　　Mr. Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, ……Other people are satisfied with staying where they are- ……these are the people who never get cancer.

　　显然爸爸也在讽刺Monica。他说，像罗斯这种人则追求卓越，其他人则安於现状，（但是）这种人不会得癌症

　　shoot for：争取，得到，完成。shoot for the stars争取得到星星,这样的人当然是追求卓越，追求远大理想的人了

　　

　　Ross: ……here‘s the deal.

　　翻译：事情是这样的。

　　这句话经常用在口语中

　　

　　Ross: Must pee. (Goes to pee.)

　　翻译：我要去尿尿了

　　记得看过一篇帖子，说到用pee是不太文雅的，而且一般用在小孩身上。如果是大人，可以说I wanna go to the John.或者说，I wanna take a leak.如果是女生，还可以说I wanna powder my nose.等

 

【场景】Rachel和Ross在客厅聊天，讨论把戒指还给Barry的事情

　　Rachel: Oh, you‘ve got Carol tomorrow.. When did it get so complicated?

　　Ross: Got me.

　　Ross的意思是“难倒我了”

　　

　　Ross: Well, you may wanna steer clear of the word ‘dumped‘. Chances are he‘s gonna be this, this broken shell of a man, y‘know, so you should try not to look too terrific, I know it‘ll be hard. Or, y‘know, uh, hey!, I‘ll go down there, and I‘ll give Barry back his ring, and you can go with Carol and Susan to the OB/GYN...

　　上次讲到steer clear of是“避开, 绕开，解脱”的意思

　　而这里，Ross这么用的言外之意是让Rachel好好驾驭这个词

　　may wanna = may want to，这里的may表示请求，规劝；是对另一方委婉地提出建议

　　Ross暗示Rach不要随便乱用“dumped”，因为他作为一个男人自尊可能会受伤害(break the shell of a man)

　　terrific的本意是“令人恐慌的，糟糕的”，放在这里则有点让人迷糊了，难道Ross的意思应该是说“你不应该打扮的太光彩照人”，否则Barry看到了会更难受。可是直接翻译过来则是“你应该试着打扮得不要让人看起来很糟糕”。

　　关于这点，我在别的论坛上看到，“terrific”口语中多半用来表示赞赏,虽然它的本意是“令人恐慌的，糟糕的”。

　　

　　

　　【场景】Carol要做B超，她在等Ross

　　Ross: (entering) Sorry I‘m late, I was stuck at work. There was this big dinosaur.. thing.. anyway.

　　be stuck at something: 被某物困住，无法脱身

　　比如:

　　Wife：Honey, I‘m stuck at the office and can‘t go to the airport to meet my sister.

　　Husband：I‘ll be there.

　　

　　【场景】：Ross和Carol、Susan讨论孩子的名字。Carol和Susan决定，如果是女孩，则叫Minnie，Ross觉得听起来像老鼠，他更喜欢Julia这个名字，但是她们两个都达成一致意见(agree on)了，因此Ross有些生气。

　　Ross: ‘S‘funny, um, uh, we agreed we‘d spend the rest of our lives together. Things change, roll with the punches. I believe Julia‘s on the table..?

　　on the table：adv.在桌面上, 公开地（这里意即叫Julia是光明正大的，不像Minni那么像老鼠的名字）

　　Things change, roll with the punches：世事难料，兵来将挡

　　punch：打孔机；钻孔机；打印机；拳打；殴打；打击

　　看到有人解释roll with the punches：“让这些打击减轻一些吧（Roll就是滚的意思，那当然是减轻了）”

　　我虽然不太明白是什么意思，但是又不太同意这个说法。有人帮忙解释一下吗？

　　

　　【场景】Barry的办公室，Rachel在化妆(do her makeup) ,此时Barry进来了

　　Barry: ……What have you been up to?

　　be up to：做（坏事）

　　比如：What in the world are you up to? 你到底在搞什么鬼？

　　

　　Barry告诉Rachel，他和Rachel的伴娘Mindy去了Aruba

　　Barry: ……we‘re kind of a thing now.

　　翻译：我们现在已经是那种关系了。

　　这里的thing用relationship应该也可以

　　

　　Rachel: Oh! Well, um.. (Grabs his forehand) You‘ve got plugs!

　　You‘ve got plugs：你去植发了！

　　plug：n.塞子，插头，插销

　　想象一下，植发不正像用一块头发“塞”到头上那块“贫瘠”的土地上么？嘻嘻（开个玩笑，以助理解，希望不要被丢砖头）

　　

　　Rachel: And you‘ve got lenses! But you hate sticking your finger in your eye!

　　lenses：隐形眼睛

　　

　　【场景】Monica和Rachel的住处，所有人都在看B超的录像带

　　Joey: What are we supposed to be seeing here?

　　be supposed to do：应该做某事，被期望做某事

　　比如：Is this a funny joke? Am I supposed to be laughing?

　　

　　Chandler: I dunno, but.. I think it‘s about to attack the Enterprise.

　　dunno：就是don‘t know的缩写。美国口语中有很多这种缩写形式的东西，符合他们的发音习惯。比如上几次提过的kinda，相当于kind of，shoulda相当于should have等

　　Chandler和Joey被迫看B超的录像带，都不知道在播放什么。Chandler居然说是在进攻Enterprise。

　　Enterprise：“企业号”是电影《星际迷航》系列里的那艘母舰的名字

　　

　　补充：

　　在剧本中，会看到OB/GYN，它的正确意思：obstetrician gynecologist, obstetrics gynecology

　　其中，obstetrician：产科医师；gynecologist：妇科医生；obstetrics：产科学；gynecology：妇科医学

1. Ross: Does she.

Marsha: He's out banging other women over the head with a club, while she sits at home trying to get the mastodon(野象) smell out of the carpet!

Q:他在外头用棍子痛击其他女人的脑袋，而她却坐在家里想方设法地让野象闻到地毯的味道。这话什么意思？有点让人莫名其妙。好像是想说两口子不合拍，但是感觉这样理解理由也不是很充分，为什么打的是other women，而不是other men。茫然……

这里该是Masha和Ross调侃的一段话，没有什么特殊含义，可是Ross却非常较劲儿，居然真的和Masha讨论起来究竟那些 Mannequin所代表的原始人的烦恼起来，还说他们应该真正担心的是冰河世纪的到来......真不接风情，还好这时候Carol来了，解了 Masha的围。

 

2. Phoebe: She's already fluffed that pillow... Monica, you know, you've already fluffed that- (Monica glares at her.) -but, it's fine!

Monica: Look , I'm sorry, guys, I just don't wanna give them any more ammunition than they already have.

Q:ammunition在这里指什么？

A:ammunition的本意是“军火、弹药”，这里Monica给Phoebe解释为什么她会这么在意枕头是否“松”，因为她不想让她那个挑剔的母亲又有更多口实来说她。（虽然后面她母亲还是没有放过这么一个小小的细节）

3.Phoebe: Monica- Hi! Um, Monica, you're scaring me. I mean, you're like, you're like all chaotic and twirly. And not-not in a good way.

Q:chaotic and twirly是表示举止反常的意思吧。

A:Phoe对正在弄枕头的mon说的“chaotic and twirly”其实是老美要来形容人“慌慌张张的……”的意思。（chaotic混乱的 、twirly团团转的）

 

4.Chandler: Ugly Naked Guy got a Thighmaster!

Q:Thighmaster是什么？这句话什么意思？

A:Chandler突然发现他们六个人一直关心的裸男竟然买了一个健腿器，所以很惊讶的说了这句话。那个裸男一直没有露脸过，但是却一直贯穿在这个电视中，常常会因为他的一些事情让这六个人大发感慨。
