PRVE-0474 : Berkeley Packet Filter Devices do not Exist Under directory /dev on Nodes "Node1" (文档 ID

SYMPTOMS

Trying to install Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12.1.02 , while running runcluvfy tool shows following errors:

Starting check for Berkeley Packet Filter devices /dev/bpf* existence and validation check ...

ERROR:

PRVE-0474 : Berkeley Packet Filter devices do not exist under directory /dev on nodes "Node2".
PRVE-0474 : Berkeley Packet Filter devices do not exist under directory /dev on nodes "Node1".

Check for Berkeley Packet Filter devices /dev/bpf* existence and validation check failed

Pre-check for cluster services setup was unsuccessful on all the nodes.

 

CAUSE

Berkeley Packet Filter devices /dev/bpf* does not exist on system. Oracle use ioctl command to access bpf devices, you can review IBM website here for the type of operations:

SOLUTION

Check /dev/bpf* device exist on system

# ls -lart /dev/bpf*

If no device exist , execute below command as root user.

# /usr/sbin/tcpdump -D

Now verify  /dev/bpf* device should exist

# ls -lart /dev/bpf*

 Now re-run the runcluvfy.sh , issue will be resolved.
