SAP Kernel Upgrade

 

Topic: This article help you how to Download SAP kernel patches and how to install SAP kernel on AIX64.

一、Download SAP Kernel Patches from SAP marketplace.
The URL :https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/patches, Download path: My Company's Application Components -> SAP Kernel 64 bit Unicode -> SAP KERNEL 7.00 64-BIT UNICODE -> AIX 64-BIT
You need download the two parts: #Database independent kernel and DB2 UDB kernel for AIX 64bit . Notation, your must download the same level you want to install, for example 146.
二、Install Patches
1.stop SAP.
2.Backup /sapmnt/{SID}/exe directory.
{SID}adm > tar -cvf exe.tar /sapmnt/{SID}/exe
3.Reboot the application server
4.Use the {SID}adm user logon to the server, stop this service.
# stopsap startupsrv DVEBMGS00
5.Use root user rename the files the owner is root under /sapmnt/{SID}/exe, example saposcol, icmbnd, etc.
6.Copy /sapmnt/{SID}/exe/SAPCAR to other directory, for example /install/patches. SAPCAR is a tool for uncompress the sap patches for .CAR or .SAR.
7.Use the {SID}adm user uncompress the patches to /sapmnt/{SID}/exe.
{SID}adm > /install/patches/SAPCAR /install/patches/ SAPEXE_146-20000978.SAR
{SID}adm > /install/patches/SAPCAR /install/patches/ SAPEXEDB_146-20000978.SAR
8.Swithc to root user from the {SID}adm
{SID}adm > su root
Notation: it is have no '-' symbol after su.
Root> cd /sapmnt/{SID}/exe
Root> ./saproot.sh SID
9. Reboot your server, then start sap.
OK, the kernel installation work have complete.Please logon to your system and view the level whether ungrade.

 

 

II. Update in NT.

 

To update the SAP kernel

1. create a folder to store the kernel SAR file

2. copy the SAR file to the new folder

3. run sapcar -xvf SAPEXEDB* (database dependent)

4. run sapcar -xvf SAPEXE_* (database independent)

Step 3 and 4 are to extract the kernel

5. stop SAP console

6. stop SAP service

7. stop SAPoscol service

8. remove the SAPEXEDB___.SAR and SAPEXE__.SAR from the new kernel folder

9. copy everything from the new kernel folder to E:usrsap<SID>DVEBMGS00exe

10. copy everything from the new kernel folder to E:usrsapE05SYSexeucIA64

11. start SAPOSCOL and SAP SERvice

12. start SAP console
