Software Design - same idea as last year, theme is software that "dissolves the boundaries between us."  We are thinking about having the technical requirements be use a self created Web service, mobile device, and built on .NET.  Judging criteria would be Problem Identification (how challenging is the problem taken on), Design (effectiveness, impactfulness, innovation), Development (implementation), and Presentation.

Short Film -  similar idea to last year - with two distinct rounds.  The idea is to create a film that shares a perspective on "(dissolving) the boundaries between us."  First round would be the submission of an abstract (what's the cool idea) as well as a storyboard of the film.  X teams would be selected to advance to the next round, where they would actually create and submit the film.  We would look at the first round as a qualifying piece, to qualify the filmmaker and the idea, and so the actual film could be in line with the abstract/storyboard, or make departures as filming began. 

IT - two rounds of competition, the first round would be a series of online quizzes on various security, server, network topics, and the second round would be a set of business cases to analyze from an IT decision making perspective...

Senior Project - we are thinking of having three categories - Education, Healthcare, and Communication. Students in any major working on a course project could submit a body of work (a financial model to improve use of medical resources, exploratory paper, design for a better solar oven, etc.) that could potentially affect one of these three areas in a developing region. 

Business Plan - the idea is to create a competition for the student to show skills in areas such as creating business models, defining processes, doing data analysis, etc., to the end of creating a stronger business.  The competition could be two rounds, with the first round to submit a qualifying work (previous business plan done, financial model created, etc) and then the second round would be to pick from one of several (provided) business ideas, and create and defend a compelling model around it. 

Algorithm -  Similar to last year, we want to have a two round competition, with a first round online quiz/puzzle hunt, followed by a second round take home coding challenge for top scorers. The finals would again be something like the 30 hour coding marathon we did this past year...

Still being worked on:  Web, Visual Gaming, and Rendering.
