Install Mac OS X Theme for Ubuntu 14.04 will help to make Ubuntu 14.04 looks like Mac OS X. ThisMacbuntu Transformation Pack Includes GTK Themes, themes for Ubuntu Unity, Icon themes for Ubuntu 14.04, Logos, Boot Splash sceen, Login Screen LightDM webkit theme (bywattos). This pack is developed bynoobslab with the help of  bluedxca93 from gnome-look.org.

This Mac OS X Transformation Pack consists of four Mac GTK themes, three Mac icon themes, Mac boot screen, and Mac like LightDM theme. The commands and instructions to change an Ubuntu 14.04 looks like Mac OS X are given below. There are some instructions to revert back to default Ubuntu.

Simple things first.

Download Mac OS X Lion Wallpapers

Simple things first just download Mac OS X wallpapers. Here is the link to download the Mac OS X wallpapers. It will download a Zip of 39.2 MB. Extract it to your pictures folder.

Then right click on the desktop >> change the background >> Select Pictures folder and select a Mac Wallpaper.

 

Tools to apply Mac OS X Theme on Ubuntu 14.04

To change the GTK theme, Icons Theme, Cursors, Fonts we need Unity Tweak Tool. Install Unity Tweak Tool on Ubuntu 14.04 by using the commands given below.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppasudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

Install Mac OS X theme for Ubuntu 14.04

Install the GTK theme, Icon theme, Mouse pointer theme and fonts of Mac OS X and apply them to ubuntu 14.04. Run the commands on a terminal (press Ctrl+Alt+T).

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themessudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install mac-ithemes-v3sudo apt-get install mac-icons-v3

Now Open Unity Tweak Tool and select Themes section. On GTK themes section select Mbuntu theme. On the Icons tab select Mbuntu-osx and on cursors tab select Mac-cursors.

The look and feel of the Unity desktop is now almost Mac Like. You have mac icons, Mac Windows and Mac mouse pointers.

Next thing is to add a Mac Dock, Mac Logo and Name on the top bar.

 

Install Docky, Mac OS X Like Dock in Ubuntu 14.04

Docky is a very light weight mac os x like dock for ubuntu. It has mac like hover effects for icons. To install docky into ubuntu 14.04 run the commands given below.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:docky-core/ppasudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install docky

Now install Mac Dock theme for Docky.

Download Mac theme for docky. Run Docky from Unity Launcher. You will get a dock on the bottom of the screen. Click on the first icon docky settings. On the settings window select3D Mode. Click Install Button select the downloaded docky theme file. Then you will getBuyi-idock theme. Now we got a Mac OS X like Dock.

Hide Ubuntu Unity Launcher

You can hide unity launcher from Appearance -> Behavior andturn off. Now your desktop have a nice mac os x wallpaper with mac os x dock.

Replace ‘Ubuntu Desktop‘ text with ‘Mac OS X‘ on the top Panel

Enter following commands to change ‘Ubuntu Desktop‘ text on the panel:

cd && wget -O Mac.po http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-14.04/change-name-on-panel/mac.pocd /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES; sudo msgfmt -o unity.mo ~/Mac.po;rm ~/Mac.po;cd

If you want to revert back to ‘Ubuntu Desktop’ text, enter following commands in the Terminal:

cd && wget -O Ubuntu.po http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-14.04/change-name-on-panel/ubuntu.pocd /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES; sudo msgfmt -o unity.mo ~/Ubuntu.po;rm ~/Ubuntu.po;cd

Replace the Ubuntu logo with Apple logo on Launcher

Enter following commands to replace the Apple Logo on the launcher

wget -O launcher_bfb.png http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-14.04/launcher-logo/apple/launcher_bfb.pngsudo mv launcher_bfb.png /usr/share/unity/icons/

If you want Ubuntu logo back insted of the apple logo enter following commands in terminal:

wget -O launcher_bfb.png http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-14.04/launcher-logo/ubuntu/launcher_bfb.pngsudo mv launcher_bfb.png /usr/share/unity/icons/

Replace Ubuntu overlay scrollbars with normal scroll bars

Enter following command in terminal to disable overlay scrollbars in ubuntu

gsettings set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode normal

If you want ubuntu overlay bars back then run the following command on the terminal

gsettings reset com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode

Now your desktop is looks like Mac OS X. Next is to tweak the bootscreen, login screen and the lock screen of LightDM

Apply Mac OS X Splash Screen to Ubuntu 14.04

This will change the boot screen of Ubuntu 14.04 from ubuntu text to a nice Mac OS X like Splash screen with grey loading animation and apple logo.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themessudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install mbuntu-bscreen-v3

If you don’t like Mac OS X like Splash Screen, You can always get back Ubuntu splash screen by removing it.
Enter following command to remove splash:

sudo apt-get remove mbuntu-bscreen-v3

Apply Mac OS X Login Screen to Ubuntu 14.04

Enter following commands to install Mac LightDM theme on Ubuntu 14.04. These commands will change the login screen of ubuntu.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themessudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install mbuntu-lightdm-v3

If you want to revert the login screen to default then run the following commands to revert the default LightDM theme.
Enter following command will remove LightDM theme:

sudo apt-get remove mbuntu-lightdm-v3

Remove White Dots and Ubuntu Logo from Lock Screen

Ubuntu 14.04 got new lock screen. If you are not changed the Light DM Theme then these step are essential to look like a Mac OS X Lock Screenlock screen.

Enter following commands in terminal to remove white dots and Ubuntu logo:

sudo xhost +SI:localuser:lightdmsudo su lightdm -s /bin/bashgsettings set com.canonical.unity-greeter draw-grid false;exitsudo mv /usr/share/unity-greeter/logo.png /usr/share/unity-greeter/logo.png.backup

If you want to revert back then use following commands.

sudo xhost +SI:localuser:lightdmsudo su lightdm -s /bin/bashgsettings set com.canonical.unity-greeter draw-grid true;exitsudo mv /usr/share/unity-greeter/logo.png.backup /usr/share/unity-greeter/logo.png

Now the transformation of Desktop to Mac OS X is almost complete. You have a Mac Boot splash, login screen, Desktop and lock screen.

Install Monochrome icons for Libreoffice in Ubuntu 14.04

Human icons are the default icons in LibreOffice. But in the Mac transfomation pack those are not suited well. So we are attempting to change the libreoffice icon theme to a monocromatic more appeling theme. To make LibreOffice more elegant with monochrome icons follow these instructions.

Enter following commands to install monochrome icons for libreoffice.

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-sifr

After installation go to LibreOffice menu select “Tools” > “Options” > “LibreOffice” > “View” and select “Sifr” under “Icon size and style”.

Apply Mac Fonts to Ubuntu 14.04

The default ubuntu font look great in Ubuntu 14.04. But for a complete Mac Look we need Mac Fonts. To Install Mac Fonts to the system run the following commands.

wget -O mac-fonts.zip http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-14.04/macfonts.zipsudo unzip mac-fonts.zip -d /usr/share/fonts; rm mac-fonts.zipsudo fc-cache -f -v

To change the fonts start unity tweak tool . On the fonts section choose Apple Garamont Font or Lucida Mac Font. Adjust the size of the font according to your screen.ubuntu-1404-mac-osx-fonts
