Xilinx Vivado & ISE License creating and modification

Recently I am given a Xilinx FPGA board left by my senior. Since the license was installed in his PC which has been formatted, I can only download free license from Xilinx. This blog is about how to create a free license and modify a license key file.

- If you only need a free license with limited function:

Xilinx provides users free licenses to run simulation but for synthesis, implementation and programming, you need to have a full license. The Create License tab on the Product Download and Licensing Site is the starting point for license key file generation. First please go to xilinx.com/getlicense.

• selecting Products
  select the product licensing account you wish to administer and click #Generate Node-Locked License#.
  

• Then click #*select a host# and #add a host#*
  
  Host name, host id type etc could be seen from Xilinx License Configuration Manage.
  Open Vivado2013.3, click #help#, then #manage license…#.

  

• Then click #*next# all the way. A free license will be sent to you by Xilinx*

- To modify a license key file:

First you should have the full license account and then modify his/her license to you. So that this product could run in your own PC. In order to modify an existing license key file, select the license key file in the master view and then click the Modify License button in the detail view.

Then just choose the host id in the pop-up and click #next# all the way. Modification could easily been done!
