Man stabs woman to death at a university in Shanghai

    A man stabbed a woman to death at local university today due to disputes in their relationship, local police said.

    当地警方通报，今天在当地大学，一名男子因为感情纠葛将一刺死。

    Pudong police said they received a call about 10:20 am, saying a woman was stabbed on the fourth floor of the library building of Shanghai Maritime University' Lingang Area campus, and a man attempted to commit suicide by plunging from the fifth floor in the same building.

     浦东警方通报，他们于上午10：20接到报警电话，报告在上海海事大学临港校区图书馆4楼，还一名女子被捅伤，一名男子在图书馆5楼准备跳楼自杀。

    Police soon arrived at the scene and rushed the 23-year-old woman, surnamed Zhou, to hospital. They also stopped the man, surnamed Xu, 24, from jumping from the fifth floor.

    警察迅速到达事发现场，紧急将23岁的周某送往医院，还阻止了24岁的徐某从5楼跳下。

    Both of them were postgraduate of the university.

    他们都是这个学校的研究生。

    Zhou was pronounced dead about 5:30 pm due to severe injury.

    周某因为伤势过重于下午5点30分宣布死亡。

    Police detained Xu, who later confessed that Zhou was his girlfriend and they had some disputes earlier, which led to the stabbing death.

    警方拘留了徐某，他后来承认是周某是他的女朋友，他们先前的争执导致他刺死了周某。

    Police said they also found a plastic bottle that smelled pungent that at the scene. Xu told police that he brought this bottle, which contained some chemical liquid, to the scene.

    警方通报，他们还在现场发现了一个有刺激性气味的塑料瓶，据徐某交代，是他在这个瓶子里装了一些化学液体，并带到了现场。

    Police are still investigating the exact substance of the chemical liquid and other details of the case.
