同时使用多种机制

   本模式同时使用以下多种机制：

• 投票机制。提供一种机制，用户可以投票赞成或者反对网站中的每一项内容。每个用户都能投票，并且后续还能改投。当用户给某项内容投票后，投票结果会反馈给该用户。让用户能够看到他之前的投票信息，某些情况下还要允许用户可以更改他们之前的投票操作；
• 显示内容获得的得票数。该机制能够让浏览者清晰地看出一项内容有多受欢迎，并且可以与其它内容的欢迎程序进行对比；
• 归纳受欢迎项。在主页中归纳列举哪些内容深受欢迎；
• 突出受欢迎项。在检索结果中、浏览标签、显示相关信息时凸显受欢迎项；
• 内容提交机制。允许用户通过多种方式提交内容。

让用户能够提交

   提供带内容提交窗口的网页。最简单也最传统的方法是让用户在网页中的窗口里面提交内容。内容提交后，用户就可以自由地评价提交的内容好坏了。

内置投票功能

   为用户提供功能模块以便其能在自己的网站中使用。如果用户正在提交内容，可以给其提供功能模块以便在网站中使用。这将使其它开发者在自己的网站中直接提交内容。功能模块实际上就是一句JavaScript语言的include语句，该语句的作用是如果网站中还没有包含投票的网址，则将投票网址添加到网站中。[4]

讨论

     在网站中使用本模式将用户放在网站的核心地位[6]。通过以下正反两个方面来对网站内容进行民主管理：

• 如果用户之间的意见不一致，民主管理是否是最好的管理机制？
• 如果用户对网站或者产品的意见不一致，民主管理是否是最好的管理机制？
• 如果不是每个用户都和你的品味相同，民主管理是否是最好的管理机制？[7]

     每个用户都站在自己的角度来判断什么是优质的，这些判断是主观的判断。也因此引出以下问题：每个条目获得的投票数是否真的可以拿来做比较？得票最多的条目是否真的是质量最高的条目？[8]

     上述困境由引出以下问题：有些用户的权利是否应该比其他用户高？有些用户的投票是否应该比重比其他用户高？如果想让你的网站更符合你的喜好，那就应该这么做。受欢迎的内容不一定能与高质量的内容相提并论。

     可以考虑采取以下措施防止用户滥用本模式：

• 限制用户活动。在给定的时间段内限制用户的投票数量；
• 监控特定用户的恶意行为。某些用户可能会对恶意贬低其他人发表的内容，可以限制恶意贬低的次数；
• 高权重的票。用户投给朋友的票的权重低于给陌生人的票；
• 更重要的内容。原创的内容比引用的内容更值得提倡。

群体智慧

     当每秒钟提交的内容数量远远大于工作人员的处理能力时，你需要依靠所谓的“群体智慧”来判断内容的好坏（垃圾邮件、虚假故事、内容不完整、错误分类等）。如果每个用户可以不管别的用户如何投票，而能单独进行评价内容质量，这种方式可行[9]。

     但并不是说投票都是独立行为，相反，人群之间相互沟通并且相互影响，最终大部分人形成一致的意见。造成这种情况的原因是采用可度量值来进行质量评定。群体没有主见：他们总是被大多数人的投票倾向所影响[10]。
