I am going to create a custom field to check theprogress of tasks in my project. First, in the Tools menu, I point to “Customize”,and then click “Fields”, I leave task field because I  won’t make the custom field to appear in thetask of the project .I also leave the Text to the task type. And I leave theText1 field selected. I want the custom field to be permanently renamed as theprogress. So I click rename and then type Progress, I have three specific typesof progress in my field so the field will consistently use the same terminologyto describe each progress. I want to provide this descriptor as a drop-down listin the field so I click lookup I type each descriptor in the value column, “OnTrack”,” Slipping” and “Blocking Issues”. In most cases tasks in my projectmight be “On check”, so I want to identify that is the default solution in thislist. I click this check box click on track and then click “Set Default”. Next Iwant to display icons to indicate this progress descriptors. I click graphicalindicators and then fill out the table on this dialog box, if the progressfield equals “On track” I want to display a green happy face , if the progress  field equals to slipping I want to display a yellowface, and if the progress field equals “Blocking Issues”,  I want to display a red sad face, now I havecustomize my field I click the column I want to display on the right of mycustom field,  on the insert menu, I clickcolumn, I click progress in the field name list. I want the graphical indicatorto appear in the center of the column so I click center in the “Align data”list. Now I can quickly see the progress of my tasks using graphicalindicators. If one of my tasks begins to “Slipping”, blocking issue I caneasily change the progress using the drop-down list.
