TOEFL writing——"Technology"

Abstract

This article shares something about English writing skills, which are important and might be really helpful for readers, especially for these guys who are trying to prepare for the TOEFL test.


1. How to use uncountable words correctly?

Technology n. (uncountable)

Technological adj.

Wrong case: The technology has made our lives better.

Corrected answer: Technology has made our lives better.

Reason: When we talk about general things or use uncountable words, such as technology, people etc. It is unnecessary to use the word "THE" in front of uncountable nouns. 

Special case: I saw a lecture on the technology of storytelling.

Reason: The word "technology" here is a specific one about storytelling so we can use the word "The".


2. Technology related words.

Technophile n. someone who loves technology.

Technophobe n. someone who dislikes or even hates technology.

Tech-saving adj. someone who knows a lot of knowledge about computers.

Cutting-edge adj. lead or forefront technology.

State of the art n. the best or most recent technology.

The latest adj. the newest technology.

Obsolete adj. something that is no longer used.

Outdated adj. something that is very old or obsolete.

compact adj. something that is small and easy to carry.

bulky adj. something that is really massive and clumsy.

user-friendly adj. something that is easy to use. 

Glitch n. a defect, problem or error.
